The Draytek V2925n is a professional router with many features for the small business market. The router is the basis of your company and acts as a central distribution point. With the integration of multiple LAN subnets, you can create up to five separate LAN networks. Ideal for connecting IP devices, IP cameras or multiple companies. The Draytek V2925n also features two Gigabit WAN ports, 5 Gigabit LAN ports and 4G/3.5G support with the USB ports.
Unique to the Draytek Vigor 2925n is Dual Band Wireless technology that uses two chips. Many makers only provide dual band via a single chip, which does not always deliver the best speed or stability. To prevent this, Draytek provides dual band with two separate chips, one of which is dedicated to 2.4 GHz and the other dedicated to 5 GHz.
The internal network can be expanding further in terms of functions. Not only can computers, smart phones, printers and servers be part of the network, but also ATM terminals, IP cameras and IP phones. With the help of Multiple LAN, separation of these internal networks is now very easy. Multiple subnets with their own DHCP server can be created, creating separate internal networks. For example, a network camera or a guest network can be completely separate from the business.
Security via SPI and NAT
The robust and versatile firewall in the Draytek Vigor V2925n ensures optimum network security. Incoming and outgoing traffic can be allowed or blocked. The firewall can be based on IP address, port number, and protocol used. All firewall rules can also be applied to incoming VPN connections.
Because the firewall router features Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI) all packages are checked on connection state. When a packet according to the firewall rules is transmitted it will also be checked for active connections. If there are no active connections, the router will still block the packets.
Within the firewall it is also possible to create groups. These groups can then be used to define firewall rules. A group may consist of an IP address or a group of IP addresses.
With bandwidth management, the Internet can be used optimally. This function consists of three parts:
1) Session Limit
With the session limit function, the maximum number of sessions per IP address or group of IP addresses can be specified. This prevents one user from consuming all available bandwidth.
2) Bandwidth limit
With the aid of bandwidth limit you can indicated how much bandwidth is allowed to be use on certain IP-addresses, where a default value can be set. A group of IP addresses can be defined. Bandwidth limit is apply on both up and download traffic.
3) Quality of Service
The QoS function ensures that data, both incoming and outgoing, can be treated as a priority. Quality of Service (QoS) can help guaranteed VoIP quality. The application of QoS guarantees that other data streams, such as HTTP and FTP, have no influence on the quality of the telephone call.
VPN and SSL VPN capabilities
The DrayTek Vigor 2925n provides support for 50 IPSec VPN tunnels simultaneously. VPN creates a secure connection over the Internet to your own network. For example, this may be a site-to-site VPN connection between two Draytek routers, or a client-to-site VPN connection. A client-to-site VPN connection is a connection from a laptop computer or tablet to the Draytek router. With the Draytek V2925ac it is possible to create a VPN tunnel to your network without a VPN server on the network.
For people who travel frequently and would like a simple and also safe way to connect to the corporate network, SSL VPN is very convenient. Installation of VPN client software is not necessary, so wherever a computer with Internet access is you can create a secure VPN tunnel to the company.
VPN protocols and security
The Draytek 2925n supports four types of VPN connections, namely:
- PPTP (Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol)
- IPSEC (Internet Protocol Security)
- L2TP (Layer Two Tunneling Protocol)
- SSL (Secure Socket Layer VPN)
Of these four compounds PPTP is the fastest, but also the least secure form of VPN. IPSec, the most common form of VPN, provides better security because the encryption is constantly changing. L2TP in combination with IPSec, however, it is the most secure form of VPN.
